The UI of Department of Sociology is proud to present our outstanding alum award for a bachelors in sociology to Urooj Arshad. Urooj has a distinguished career for advancing LGBTQI+ human rights both within the United States and abroad. In particular, Urooj has worked as an advisor with USAID to promote missions in support of LGBTQI+ issues. Additionally, they also advanced these issues as a senior program manager at Freedom House. Urooj’s career has also generated numerous grants and other leadership roles for LGBTQI+ rights over the past 25 years. Urooj has also received recognition for their work including Women Changemakers, LGBTQ+ Leader and National Association of Asian American Professional’s Pride Awards. We too are proud to honor Urooj Arshad as an outstanding alumni.
