Following the recent publication of a new study in Socius, the Illinois News Bureau released a piece on September 10 covering Sociology department head Dr. Reuben A. Buford May's ongoing research into racial discrimination in urban nightclubs. The new paper, "Antiblack Discrimination in Public Accommodations: Differential Drink Pricing in Urban Nightclubs," studies discriminatory practices related to access and pricing to urban nightlife spaces.

The paper was co-written with Dr. May by sociology faculty member Dr. Matthew Soener and doctoral students Carileigh Jones and Quinesha Bentley, and was published on August 22, 2025 in the online journal Socius: Social Research for a Dynamic World.
