- How did you find this internship?
I found my internship with the Illinois Democratic County Chairs' Association on Handshake! I messaged the director along with submitting my application, and interviewed within the week.
- What do you usually do for the internship?
On a weekly basis, I make graphics; research policy, candidates, and donors; collect press clips of Illinois officials to send to Democratic County Chairs, and more! IDCCA's largest event is the IDCCA Brunch- the largest annual gathering of Democrats in Illinois- and I helped plan the run of show for this event.
- What do you enjoy the most about your internship?
Through this internship, I have most enjoyed my opportunity to attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. I was able to be in the United Center for two nights of the convention, and was able to watch Kamala Harris accept her nomination for President of the United States. Throughout this summer, I was able to meet so many elected officials and connect with them personally. Through this election season, I will be able to continue to meet more elected officials throughout the state, and I am excited to help their campaigns!
- Anything else you want to share?
While my internship is with a political organization, I have brought sociological viewpoints and ideas to the organization. There are so many ways to integrate sociological thinking and a macro approach to an internship, and this thought process can set applicants apart!
