Outside of the classroom, internships are a great way to use your hands and see the inner workings of an organization. Brendan, a senior pursuing a dual degree with Sociology and Jazz Performance shares how they found the perfect fit amidst their busy schedule:

  • Where did you find your internship?
    • I was struggling to find experiences that fit my schedule and experience, especially with a music-focused resume, so I spoke to the Sociology advisor, Morgan Smith, who led me into the direction of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ ATLAS Internship Program. ATLAS was a great fit because it seeks LAS students who have little-to-no experience so that they can get hands-on work experience before graduating. They have a variety of jobs and clients available, so there are tons of diverse opportunities for students of many different academic backgrounds.

  • What do you usually do for this position?
    • I am a Client Relationship Manager for ATLAS, so I focus on maintaining relationships with clients and programs who host interns for ATLAS, as well as seeking potential clients for future terms through research, outreach, and working with the rest of the CRM team.

  • How are you enjoying it so far? What do you enjoy the most?
    • The thing I enjoy most about this experience is the balance it has between so many things. There is a good mixture of using technical skills on tasks and social skills while coordinating work and contributing to projects. There is a great balance of working for the client (in my case ATLAS) and room for personal/professional development that is offered due to ATLAS being an extension of the College of LAS and the University and the program’s aims to be to create more professional, well-rounded interns whether they need to work on their hard skills or their soft skills.
