Michael Flaherty 

Flaherty earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1983. He is Professor of Sociology at Eckerd College and the University of South Florida where he provides students with foundational training and knowledge. He has made numerous scholarly contributions to sociology. His publications, including the award-winning books The Textures of Time: Agency and Temporal Experience (Temple University Press, 2011) and A Watched Pot: How We Experience Time (New York University Press, 1999), have made important contributions to social psychology, symbolic interactionism, and the study of time. His many journal articles, such as "The Perception of Time and Situated Engrossment" (Symbolic Interaction, 1991) and "Variation in the Perceived Passage of Time: A Cross-National Study" (Social Psychology Quarterly, 2003), further demonstrate the breadth and impact of his research. Flaherty's work has been cited more than 3,000 times, attesting to its influence in the field. His extensive professional service, including an editorship at Symbolic Interaction (1996-1999), underscores his dedication to the discipline.
